Publisher Description
Leah is changed. Months earlier, she left for a routine expedition, only this time her submarine sank to the sea floor. When she finally surfaces and returns home, her wife Miri knows that something is wrong. Barely eating and lost in her thoughts, Leah rotates between rooms in their apartment, running the taps morning and night. As Miri searches for answers, desperate to understand what happened below the water, she must face the possibility that the woman she loves is slipping from her grasp.

3.5 rounded up to 4
Really solid writing and I was invested in the characters and what happened, but there ultimately felt like a lot of missing information, so the ending felt a bit flat and overall seemed rushed. I’d love to read more by this author.
Beautiful
While the concept is clever and unrealistic, the book portrays the effects of trauma on a relationship in such a realistic beautiful manner.
Trying to Wrap My Head Around a Very Esoteric Book
Julia Armfield’s writing, and Annabel Baldwin’s narration are both beautiful. The alternate chapters from the MC Leah’s POV all seem to be realistic although there is detail absent that prevents the reader from attaining a complete, logical understanding of the plot. The chapters from MC Miri’s POV move from a realistically based perception of the past, to an increasingly surreal progression of events with attendant emotions in the present. Hours after reaching the end, I persist in trying to gain an understanding of the surreal components of this novel.
